The Fanes - Senes - Braies nature park has a surface of approximately 25,680 hectares which stretches over the villages of Badia, Braies, Dobbiaco, Marebbe, La Valle and Valdaora. The mountain slopes which run towards the Pusteria Valley form the northern frontier of the park. In the West, it borders onto the forest slopes of the Badia Valley; in the South, it reaches to the province’s border and in the East, it adjoins the Sesto Dolomites at the Landro Valley.
This region is truly magic: see the Alpine meadows of Fanes, Senes, Fosses, as well as the Prato Piazza. No wonder that the Ladino legend talks about fallen kingdoms of times gone by and of a stony paradise.
This nature park is particularly well-known for its broad variety of different animals. Today, on its extensive Alpine meadows, you can still find animals like chamois, ibex and marmot.
